Manchester United rode their luck on Friday night, needing a stoppage time header from Harry Maguire to secure a spot in the Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round after a lacklustre display against Leicester City.

United's first-half display was symbolic of how Ruben Amorim's side has performed at home this season, looking slow and showing a lack of creativity going forward. Patrick Dorgu looked bright on his debut, yet him starting on the right rather than on the left raised plenty of questions.

Leicester took the lead late in the first-half thanks to a rebound that bounced off Bobby De Cordova-Reid, prompting a number of boos at half-time from the home crowd.

Amorim brought on Alejandro Garnacho at half-time, looking to inject a sense of urgency, and it worked. United looked more positive going forward, and they were finally making inroads in behind the Leicester defence. This was followed by a substitution to bring Joshua Zirkzee on, and United continued to pile on pressure.

United's equaliser came in the 68th minute, as Garnacho squared the ball into the six-yard box, with Rasmus Hojlund's backheel being blocked, but the rebound fell to Zirkzee, who tapped it into the net.

Amorim's side pushed in search of a winner, and it came right at the death, with Maguire connecting excellently to a Bruno Fernandes free-kick to thump it into the net in the third minute of stoppage time. It looked offside, but with there being no VAR in this round of the FA Cup, United can count themselves lucky it stood. And let's be clear, we are not complaining...

Here are our player ratings:

Andre Onana 6

He had a pretty quiet game overall, making a number of relatively comfortable saves. Got down well for the initial strike before De Cordova-Reid was left unmarked to bundle the ball into the net. Needed more help from his defenders.

Leny Yoro 5

Another mixed performance from the youngster. When he was at right centre-back, he was struggling against Jordan Ayew, especially when coming out with the ball. However, he improved in the second-half when he switched to the left, looking more confident with his play and making a series of crucial interceptions. Helped United maintain a high tempo in the closing stages.

Harry Maguire 6

United's hero once again. The towering defender had a relatively quiet game, looking assured in most of his play. With United needing a goal, he delivered, after being brilliantly found by Fernandes. Gets plenty of criticism, but always comes up with a huge goal.

Noussair Mazraoui 5

Like Yoro, Mazraoui's performances in the two halves were drastically different. In the first-half, he was uncomfortable at left centre-back and was not linking up well with Diogo Dalot. Yet when he switched to right centre-back, he looked much better and was brilliant coming out of the defence. Pulled off a crucial last-ditch challenge when he was left alone with the Leicester attack running towards him.

Patrick Dorgu 6

Questions were immediately asked when Dorgu started on the right rather than on the left, and it was immediately evident that he was trying to settle in there. Looked nervy at the start, yet he grew into the game as the half wore on. A bright spark in what was a shambolic half for United. Taken off at half-time for Garnacho.

Bruno Fernandes 6

While most of the team looked underwhelming for large portions of the game, he was arguably the only one looking to create something on the day. Many of his passes did not come off, yet he was always searching for a ball forward to the United attackers. Delivered an excellent bit of quality to set Maguire up.

Manuel Ugarte 5

Rash on a number of occasions and was rather sloppy with his touches. While he won the ball plenty of times for United, he also had a mistake in him on Friday, as was seen for the Leicester goal, when he lost it allowing the Foxes to go in front. Needs to be wary of the amount of yellow cards he is picking up. Substituted in stoppage time for Casemiro.

Diogo Dalot 5

He is becoming such a frustrating player to watch when he plays on the left. While he has the qualities to be a great wing-back, him having to constantly cut inside is killing most of United's momentum. Will probably end up on the right at some point.

Amad Diallo 7

Continues to be United's main source of attacking quality. Looks so much better at right wing-back, and he grew in influence in the final 20 minutes or so. He is so direct that it tends to be frightening for opposing defenders.

Kobbie Mainoo 5

Failed to have a real impact on the game, even in attacking midfield, where he had looked so bright in the UEFA Europa League. Did not create a chance or have a shot, and was anonymous for large parts of the game. Taken off for Zirkzee in the second-half.

Rasmus Hojlund 5

Barely had a kick in the first-half, but he immediately sprung to life when Garnacho got on the pitch. The Dane carved a chance out of nothing when he got past Wout Faes, and on other occasions was in the right position but the ball did not fall to him. Left frustrated yet again by the lack of service to him in the box, especially when Garnacho took a shot on rather than pass it to him at one point. His confidence has been completely wrecked, and his teammates are not helping him out.

Substitutions

Alejandro Garnacho 8

Completely changed the game and United's approach. He was willing to drive at defenders and it was clear that the other United players were constantly looking to get him on the ball, knowing he constantly had the beating of his marker. His decision-making still needs to improve, yet he is quickly growing into United's most crucial and deadly attacker, alongside Amad.

Joshua Zirkzee 7

Came on for Mainoo and had a very good impact. Linked up very well with Amad, Hojlund and Garnacho, and was willing to track back to help the defence. Got on the end of a loose ball in the six-yard box to equalise for United. He looks so much more comfortable playing inthose attacking midfield positions rather than as a sole striker.

Casemiro 5

Came on for Ugarte deep into stoppage time.

Manager - Ruben Amorim: 6

Strange decision to start Dorgu on the right and Dalot on the left, especially when it has been so clear that Dorgu would fit in well on the left-hand side. Probably should have also started Mazraoui at right centre-back and Yoro on the left. His substitutions worked wonders though, as Garnacho and Zirkzee immediately impacted the game and turned it around for United.

United need to do so much better, as the team's performances have been so underwhelming and poor for a few weeks now. Amorim has to find a way to get the best out of these players and fast.
