Manchester United progressed to the Round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League after securing a 2-0 win away to FCSB on Thursday, retaining their unbeaten run in the competition.
After a goalless first-half that included some neat play from United, the away side came to life following the break, particularly through the introductions of Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho.
Garnacho was close to giving United the lead just minutes after coming on, with a shot hitting the post, and it was an early warning sign for the FCSB defence.
United finally went ahead in hour mark, as Bruno Fernandes had a shot cannon off the bar, and just seconds later, Kobbie Mainoo found space on the right, before squaring it excellently to Diogo Dalot, who tapped in the opener from close range.
It was 2-0 soon after, as Garnacho, who was growing in influence in the game, cut the ball back to Mainoo, who tucked it away past the helpless FCSB goalkeeper.
FCSB still possessed some threat going forward, but United were in complete control in the second-half, and were comfortable in the closing stages.
Here are the player ratings from tonight's win at the National Arena:
Altay Bayindir 6
Did not have much to do during most of the game apart from having to pass the ball to the United defenders. He was rather uncomfortable with his feet again, but was solid when called upon in the second-half.
Noussair Mazraoui 6
Made a return to the right centre-back position and was not troubled whatsoever. Did not make many flurries forward, yet was good on and off the ball.
Matthijs de Ligt 7
Largely untroubled at the heart of the defence, dealing with loads of balls in the middle of the pitch. Looked good with his passing and commanded the backline well.
Lisandro Martinez 7
Another brilliant performance from Martinez, especially on the ball. He was making strides forward in possession and was playing some through passes that cut the FCSB defence wide open, including ones to Mainoo and Hojlund. Brought off for Leny Yoro.
Diogo Dalot 7
Did not have much of the ball in the first-half when he was on the right, but he was a constant threat down the left after the break. He was in the right place at the right time to score the opener. Needs to be in those positions more so that we have the full benefits of the wing-back system.
Toby Collyer 6
Relatively comfortable in the 45 minutes that he played, opting to play safer passes and leave the riskier passes to his teammates. Substituted at half-time.
Bruno Fernandes 8
Started in the deeper role and he is showing his quality there on a more frequent basis. Linked up very well with the rest of the team, especially Mainoo and Dalot, spreading the ball well on a number of occasions. Struck the bar with a thumping shot right before the opening goal.
Tyrell Malacia 5
Some more minutes in the tank for Malacia, and was going forward on multiple occasions in the first-half. Still not fully up to speed and will probably benefit from a loan spell to get regular game-time once Patrick Dorgu comes in. Hooked off at half-time.
Christian Eriksen 8
Crucial to most of United's play, looking very good on the ball and barely losing possession. While he may struggle to keep up with the intensity of games, he offers a touch of quality that is rare to find in this United team. Substituted in the second-half.
Kobbie Mainoo 9
Ruben Amorim opted to start Mainoo further up the pitch, and he was a constant threat. Linked up very well with the rest of the team and arguably should have had a goal in the first-half after missing from close range. Grew in stature in the second-half and was United's danger-man, carving FCSB open for Dalot's goal with an excellent cross. Made a good run to connect to Garnacho's ball into the box and put it the ball into the net after starting off the move himself.
Rasmus Hojlund 6
Looked much better than he has done in previous weeks, making several good runs down the channels. Hojlund was good at holding the ball up and getting others into play, yet he was not much of a threat on goal. Had a couple of shots on target, yet he could not get the much-needed goal. Replaced by Joshua Zirkzee towards the end.
Substitutions
Amad Diallo 7
Brought on at the break and immediately injected a sense of urgency and attacking threat. Most of the play in the second-half came down the left, yet he still had an impact on the match.
Alejandro Garnacho 8
Another excellent cameo from the Argentine, who was constantly trying - and succeeding - to beat his marker. Great on the ball and found Mainoo brilliantly to get another assist to his name. Selling him in this window would be chaotic.
Leny Yoro 6
Came on midway through the second-half and was largely untroubled. More minutes for the youngster.
Casemiro 6
Came off the bench to make his first appearance in a month. Looked alright on the ball yet Eriksen seems to offer much more.
Joshua Zirkzee 6
Brought on in the final few minutes and did not have enough time to make a real impact. Fed some neat passes into Amad and Garnacho's strides.
Manager - Ruben Amorim: 8
He was decisive with his team selection, opting to rotate some players yet not fielding a weak team. The decision to push Mainoo further forward could be something that reignites United's attack. His substitutions at the break helped United turn the intensity up a notch.
United finish the League Phase unbeaten and in third place, only behind Lazio and Athletic Club. United have now won five of their last six games in all competitions.
